Prisoner in Disguise

Posted on Posted in Career Direction, Personal growth, work

At one time or another, we have all felt as though we were a prisoner of our work/to our jobs.  Admit it: many is the time that it seemed as though you were chained to your desk…almost as though you were being held hostage.  If only there was a law enforcement officer trained in the art of hostage negotiation, available to free you from your 9-to-5 captivity.

As it turns out, there is.  Chris Voss is the CEO and Founder of The Black Swan Group, an organization created to “solve your business communication challenges with hostage negotiation techniques”.  This sounded fascinating to me, so I did some research on Chris and his company.  As it turns out, Chris is a former lead hostage negotiator for the FBI.  I first learned about him via a post I’d read on The Ladders, entitled “6 Hostage Negotiation Techniques That Will Get You What You Want”.

I found the advice given to be brilliant and very useful in everyday life.  Take a few minutes…break free from your shackles…and read it and learn a little.

I first loved this song, as performed by JD’s then-paramour Linda Ronstadt.  His version brings a beautiful simplicity to it.  Listen and enjoy.
